Baby in jacket
Portrait Drawing
Working from photographs allows me to focus on every detail. From light fluffy fabrics, to soft baby's skin, to the slick feel of a cold winter's jacket. I strive to capture more than just a look, I capture a feeling. |

I was honoured to have been asked to do this drawing of Ken Rowe and Dorothy Rowe, given as a gift to them, for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. |

St. Matthews in Halifax
Drawing
One of the challenges of drawing is when one needs to create a large area with a constant level of shading... Buildings do an excellent job of providing that challenge. |

Nikki
Portrait Drawing
"For Christmas, I was looking for someone to capture the spirit of my parent's passed pet in a drawing... I was concerned that the eyes in the picture I provided lacked detail and Dan said he would do his best. When I presented the gift to my mother on Christmas morning, after wiping the tears, the first thing she said was, "My God, the eyes are so real!"

Girl on the Beach
Portrait Drawing
To achieve a certain level of realism, I need to constantly reference the original photograph, and the drawing itself, studying the details of both and making the subtle changes required. It's a work in progress and can take many sessions and a couple of days to complete. It doesn't hurt when the kid is this cute! |

Lacey Grace!
Portrait Drawing
With this drawing, I used two different photos, capturing the head on look of one with the great pose of another. Every drawing is unique and while this one was challenging, the client was quite pleased with the results. |

Alien Friend
Fantasy Artwork
Part of the interview process for a company I worked for in California was to come up with an alien - one you might find in a computer game. There were no restrictions or guidelines for the drawing. The drawing landed me the job and started me on the road to computer graphics! |
